One of the oldest hand block printing techniques (dating back to 2500 BC) is now being practiced and preserved by artisans in Gujarat, India. Characterised usually by bright red and deep indigo colours, these prints incorporate jewel-like patterns which symbolise elements of nature such as stars and flowers.
The centre of the scarf features a cluster of traditional small flower motifs while the borders on both the ends have traditional symmetrical motifs which were mostly used in the facades of the palaces. The velvety feel of the scarf can be attributed to its Gajji silk fabric.
